Education Policy Advocate | Founder, Global Special Consideration Coalition
Aavash Subedi is a rising education policy scholar and social reformer from Nepal whose work is reshaping how nations address academic equity in times of crisis. At just 19 years old, Aavash catalyzed national policy reform through the launch of the Special Consideration Campaign, a pioneering initiative advocating for students facing medical emergencies or life-disrupting hardships. Motivated by his personal experience of being denied accommodations during national board exams while suffering from acute jaundice, Aavash mobilized data-driven proposals grounded in international policy frameworks. His advocacy led to official endorsement by Nepal’s Education Minister, Hon. Bidya Bhattarai, and successful implementation by the National Examination Board—positioning Nepal as the first country in Asia to institutionalize such emergency academic protections.
Expanding his vision globally, Aavash now leads the Global Special Consideration Coalition, a transnational network of scholars and practitioners working to advance emergency-accommodative education policies across the Global South. His leadership aims to safeguard the academic futures of students in vulnerable contexts and embed resilience into national education systems.
Aavash is also the founding president of the Diverse Ability Empowerment Foundation, where he has championed inclusive education by revitalizing infrastructure and academic support for students with disabilities. Notably, his efforts brought core subject teachers and digital literacy to Siddha Lata Deaf School—the only such institution in Nepal’s Karnali province—bridging critical access gaps for deaf learners.
Aavash Subedi represents a new generation of education policy leaders committed to inclusive, responsive, and just learning environments for all.
