
Dr. Seyum Getenet, a senior researcher in mathematics curriculum and pedagogy with 17+ years in teacher education, is committed to advancing mathematics education through teaching and research. He holds a Bachelor of Education in teaching mathematics, along with master’s degrees in educational science and technology, and mathematics curriculum and pedagogy, in addition to a PhD in mathematics education.
Dr. Seyum Getenet is actively engaged in teaching diverse mathematics curriculum and pedagogy courses at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, with a focus on early childhood and primary pre-service teachers. In the realm of research, Dr. Seyum Getenet has authored numerous articles on teaching and learning in mathematics education, particularly emphasising teacher education, technology use in classroom teaching and professional development. His advocacy centres on aligning research closely with practical teaching and classroom application to optimise outcomes in mathematics education, especially within teacher education programs. Moreover, he supervises Ph.D. and Masters students conducting research in mathematics education and curriculum, both in teacher education and school settings.
