Dr. Kyriaki Koukouraki

Dr Kyriaki Koukouraki is a Lecturer in Cultural Competency and English for Academic Purposes at King’s College London (KCL) and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). She holds a BA in Interpreting and a BA in trilingual Translation (Greek, German, English) from the Ionian University of Greece. Her Ph.D awarded by the Johannes-Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany focuses on Intercultural Communication and Relations. Furthermore, she has successfully completed the Cambridge Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA). Dr Koukouraki is Associate Editor for the high rating Journal of Applied Learning and Teaching (JALT). She is also an active member of various international associations, boards and committees, such as member of the scientific committee of the UNESCO Chair on Threats to Cultural Heritage and Cultural Heritage-related Activities (Ionian University, Corfu, Greece), a member of The World Council on Intercultural and Global Competence and a member of the Regional Advisory Committee Europe at The Global Council for Anthropological Linguistics (GLOCAL).

Dr Koukouraki has an extensive experience in a variety of HE institutions and has been a teacher trainer, mentor and lecturer for Translation, Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics, and Business English.

Currently, she is the Curriculum Lead for the Cultural Competency Staff Programme at KCL, focusing on staff CPD. She is researching the impact, but also the interference of cultural aspects in languages and subsequently language teaching and learning as well as studying the required intercultural competencies for HE professionals and students.

In her free time she enjoys alpine skiing, classical music, theatre, and reading.
