To All the Scholars Around the World who Love Professor Chomsky:
As the President of the STAR Scholars Network, I want to address the recent rumors circulating on social media about the health of Noam Chomsky. It has come to our attention that there have been false reports of his passing.
We have been in contact with Dr. Valeria Wasserman Chomsky, who has confirmed that these rumors are untrue. Prof. Noam Chomsky, 96, has been recovering from a stroke he suffered a year ago. He was recently hospitalized in Brazil but has since been discharged to continue his treatment at home. Dr. Valeria Chomsky reassures us that he is currently “recovering.”
Earlier today, incorrect reports about Dr. Chomsky’s death were published by various outlets, including Jacobin and The New Statesman, both of which have since corrected their errors. We urge the public to rely on verified information and respect the Chomsky family’s privacy during this time.
We also want to remind everyone that the nominations for the A. Noam Chomsky Global Connections Awards are open. This award continues to honor the profound impact of Dr. Chomsky’s work on global scholarship and education. We encourage scholars and practitioners worldwide to submit their nominations and celebrate Dr. Chomsky’s enduring legacy.
You can also wish Noam well by completing the form below as he recovers his health.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Uttam Gaulee
President, STAR Scholars Network
