Starting a New Journal or Transitioning an Existing One

STAR Scholars welcomes two pathways for partnership:

1. Launching a New Journal

We invite individuals, academic societies, institutions, or research groups with a compelling vision to submit proposals for new journal launches. These journals may address emerging areas of scholarship, interdisciplinary intersections, or underserved academic communities. We provide full support—from editorial system setup to design, indexing, and marketing—to build the journal from the ground up.

2. Transferring an Existing Journal to STAR Scholars

We also invite editors or institutions who currently publish a journal and are seeking:

to consider transitioning their existing journal to STAR Scholars. Whether your journal is currently housed at a university, published independently, or seeking a relaunch, we are equipped to provide a seamless migration process.

STAR Scholars invites proposals for new academic journals that reflect our commitment to open access, international collaboration, and academic excellence. If you have a vision for a scholarly journal that serves a growing or underrepresented field, we encourage you to partner with us.

Star Scholars Press hosts over 30 academic book series and several professional journals across disciplines, serving a global scholarly community of more than 30,000 members across 100 countries.

Proposal Guidelines

1. Journal Overview

Proposed Title (tentative is acceptable)

Names, affiliations, and contact information of proposers

Description of the host institution, research network, or academic society

2. Aims and Scope

Purpose and intellectual scope of the journal

Target audience and disciplines

Interdisciplinary relevance and reach

International orientation and diversity commitment

3. Rationale

Gap or need this journal will address

Comparison with existing publications

Expected author base and submission interest

4. Editorial Structure

Proposed Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editors (brief bios or CVs)
Proposed editorial board (global representation encouraged)
Administrative support and editorial workflow
Content development plan for first two years

5. Journal Format

Publishing frequency (quarterly recommended)
Article types (e.g., empirical studies, reviews, commentaries)
Approximate article volume and word count
Sample table of contents for inaugural issue

6. Business Model

Open Access model and potential support (institutional, grants, sponsors)
Any anticipated article processing charges (APCs)

Q: How long does it take to launch a new journal?

A: On average, 4–6 months from proposal approval to publication of the first issue, depending on editorial team readiness.

Q: Can our journal publish in multiple languages?

A: Yes. English is recommended for primary publication; however, multilingual abstracts or articles are also welcome, provided they are accompanied by editorial planning.

Q: Does STAR Scholars charge publication fees?

A: Many journals operate under open access with flexible APC models. We encourage institutional support or grant funding where possible.

Q: Will our journal be assigned DOIs and indexed?

A: Yes. STAR Scholars provides DOI registration and assists with indexing in major databases (e.g., DOAJ, Google Scholar).

Q: What kind of technical support do we receive?

A: We provide full access to the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, editorial training, production support, and marketing resources.

Q: Who holds the copyright?

A: Authors retain copyright under Creative Commons licensing (e.g., CC BY).
